About Us

Sustainable Recreation Design is a Landscape Architecture Firm based out of Bishop, CA, in the heart of the scenic Eastern Sierras. We serve all of California, with a focus in Outdoor Recreation, Active Transportation, and Affordable Housing. Our Mission is to participate in the development of Affordable Housing, improve opportunities for Active Transportation, and create sustainable venues for Outdoor Recreation, including trails & greenways, parks & playgrounds, and scenic viewpoints & interpretive areas.

Inspired by the introduction of summer activities to ski resorts, we were founded as a consulting firm in 2014, and started serving as Prime Consultant for interdisciplinary design projects in 2019. We are licensed to practice Landscape Architecture throughout California and Nevada, and provide a wide variety of services, from Landscape Architecture & Graphic Design to Project Management & Recreation Planning.

Implementing the latest advancements in sustainability, we create defined outdoor spaces and drought-tolerant landscapes for public, private, and non-profit clients. Our ability to think outside the box and relate to a diverse variety of clients and consultants sets the stage for an innovative, interactive design process that sets us apart from our competition. Active participation in the activities we design for sets us apart from your traditional design firm.

Tony Perkins

Landscape Architect / Project Manager

Tony was inspired to pursue a career in Landscape Architecture through participation in outdoor recreation in the Eastern Sierras. Work with non-profit organizations provided experience in rural land planning and environmental sustainability early in his career. Working under established Landscape Architects and Civil Engineers built on that experience, allowing Tony to manage progressively bigger projects, with tighter deadlines and bigger teams.

Tony excels in site engineering, including grading/drainage and irrigation plans. He is excellent at research and analysis, collecting, compiling, and evaluating site information to establish a well-informed basis for design. Verbal, written, and graphic communication are Tony’s greatest strengths, with the ability to interpret and explain technical data, and organize and exhibit it in a variety of plans and illustrative materials that are easily-understood and well-received by consultants, clients, and stakeholders.
